the power of creativity changed my life,

About Norma Rapko

I know what it’s like to look fine on the outside and feel lost on the inside.

I was thirteen when I first learned that creativity could save a life — because it saved mine. I was a girl who felt invisible, carrying a pain I couldn’t name and didn’t know how to share. The night it became too heavy to hold, I reached for a pen and a little diary, and I began to write. That was the beginning of everything. Every time I picked up a pen or a brush after that, I could breathe again. Creativity became my lifeline — my way back to myself. And it has been, for forty years since.

That same practice quietly built a life I never could have imagined. As a first-generation Latina who never finished high school, I wasn’t supposed to be here. But creativity kept opening doors. What began at my kitchen table grew into a thriving business, a published book, and the invention of the CRYSTYLER® — a #1 best-selling tool that launched in 1,100 Michaels stores and was featured on HSN, As Seen on TV, Forbes, NBC, Univision, and HuffPost. I was named National Latina Businesswoman of the Year, and my story was told across ten pages of Where Women Create.

But the success was never the point. What mattered was what creativity did inside me — it quieted my anxiety, gave my pain somewhere to go, and reminded me who I was. For years I kept the hardest part of my story hidden, until the people I love most reminded me that the very thing I had survived was the thing that could help someone else feel less alone.

That was the moment I understood my story was never only mine. I’ve come to think of myself as the girl who once wanted to disappear, and the woman who now helps others reappear. It became the heart of everything I do — a reminder that creativity is not a luxury. It’s how we dream, how we find our way, and how we come home to ourselves.

I’ve spent the years since learning to guide other women through that same return — not as a therapist, but as an artist and a fellow traveler. Some come to me longing for something they can’t quite name. Some are accomplished women standing at the edge of a reinvention — leaving, beginning, becoming. Wherever they start, the work is the same: picking up a pen or a brush, and creating their way back to themselves.

If you’ve ever felt too small, too late, or too far from where you meant to be, I want you to know: everything you’re looking for is already within you. Your creativity is your way back. And if you feel ready, I’d love to create alongside you.

WORK WITH ME

The work closest to my heart happens in the hills of Avila Beach, beneath ancient oaks overlooking the Pacific, at my Art Chapel — a sacred space my husband built for me, where creativity becomes a way home.

Here I work privately with a select few women — in person or online — inviting them to rest, to remember who they are, and to create without fear. I also host intimate retreats: a small circle of women, four days of writing, painting, and creating our way back to ourselves.

This work is personal, and by invitation. I open my doors to only a handful of women at a time.

I also speak — at universities, conferences, and women’s and business events — on creativity, resilience, and the unlikely path from a bathroom floor to a #1 invention.

Reach out to request a private conversation, to invite me to speak, or to be considered among the first invited to a retreat.
